remembrance

Today is Memorial Day, a great day for grilling, swimming and driving. The holiday began as a day to decorate the graves of Civil War soldiers and was originally known as Decoration Day.

My wife and kids drove home today after a weekend spent with family in Northern Virginia. As they approached an exit for Culpeper, they called to ask me how to get to the Culpeper National Cemetery. I have three family members buried there, one of whom is my father. A few months before his death, he buried a relative of his mother's in Culpeper. I remember him being impressed by the history behind that Union cemetery in the South.

To help us remember the true meaning of Memorial Day, I'll share a few photos my daughter took this morning. My favorite is the one with the wall.

Hi Frank!

Thanks for the pictures of the Culpeper National Cemetery.

I went on Saturday and visited Mountain Home National Cemetery. It was a very moving experience. I didn't have friends or family buried there, but we wanted to go pay our respects. I wished more people would have been there. We just walked and looked at the different grave sites.

The cemeteries looked very similiar. If you ever get a chance, you should go visit it.

I listen to you all every morning. I have an hour drive to work from 8-9. You all seem to make me smile listening to you. I have told everyone I know to listen to your morning show. I think it's the greatest.

Great pics, Frank.

I've never visited the cemetery. Unfortunately, my only experience in Culpepper involves the McDonald's just off that exit on I-81 as I'm on my way to/from Maryland.

However, I have visited Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive several times.

Virginia is cool.

Thanks for the great pics, your daughter did very well. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day and if they had the chance to hug a Veteran or someone in the service.
